As parents, we protect our children every day.

Posted: 29/04/15

As parents, we protect our children every day. We teach them social skills, make sure their toys are safe, and do our best to keep them healthy. Taking care of their gums and teeth, right from the moment they are born, is one more way we can show our love for our children. Tooth decay is unhealthy and unattractive. It can damage a child's speech, nutrition and self-esteem. So remember, a healthy smile is well worth the effort!

Easy steps to a cavity-free child: 1. Wash your infant's gums after each feeding right from birth - don't wait until the first tooth erupts. 2. To prevent baby bottle decay, don't put your child to bed with a bottle unless it contains water. 3. Brush your child's teeth twice daily with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. 4. Floss teeth at least once or twice a day. 5. Ensure your child is getting the right amount of fluoride. 6. Encourage healthy eating habits and limit snacks. 7. Take your child to the dentist regularly. Some dentists suggest seeing a dentist around the first birthday - most agree they should have their first appointment by age three. 8. Consider sealants to protect your child's permanent teeth.

As a parent, you want the best for your child. Give them the best smile possible with the following steps: Wipe infant's gums after feeding. Ensure a proper intake of fluoride. Begin brushing when the first tooth comes in. Floss as soon as teeth fit closely together. Bring your child in for a dental visit by age 3. Consider sealants on permanent teeth. Maintain regular dental visits. Be a good role model!

To ensure your child's teeth are healthy: DON'T: Put baby to bed with a bottle. Use sugary liquids to soothe a fussy baby. Dip pacifiers in sugar or honey. Allow frequent snacks. Offer food as a reward. Add sugar to food to encourage eating Ask us today if you would like more information.
