Here are your safe and effective options:
- Minimal Sedation
- Moderate Sedation
- Deep Sedation
- Hospital
What type of patient is this suited for? For patients with some anxiety regarding needles or pain. Generally this is the type of patient who’ll put off getting their cavity filled for as long as they can.
Minimal Sedation (available in office; provided “by Dr.Shafiei”)
Minimal sedation allows you to relax through your entire appointment without being so anxious. For most patients, the needle is the worst part. Minimal sedation helps you not to psych your mind out too much with the expectation of pain. Appointments become a breeze!
Moderate Sedation (available in office; provided “by Dr.Shafiei”)
What type of patient is this suited for? For patients with a higher level of dental anxiety. These patients have been putting off dental treatment for some time now because they can’t bear to think of having treatment. Conscious sedation is also great for patients who would like extractions or surgical procedures performed while not being aware of the procedure.
Description: Conscious sedation involves a state of deep relaxation and is administered through intravenous (IV). This type of sedation uses drugs which produce either partial or full memory loss during your procedure and until the drugs wear off. Time will therefore appear to pass very quickly and most people remember nothing at all.
Deep Sedation (available in office; provided “by Anesthetist”)
What type of patient is this suited for? For patients with a very high level of anxiety about dental treatment or one procedure in particular. Often these patients have a hard time walking in to a dental office let alone discussing treatment. This option is great for patients who state: “I just need to be completely put out”.
Description: Deep sedation involves a drug-induced depression of consciousness, administered through intravenous, during which the patient cannot be easily aroused. The patient is asleep and will not remember any of the procedure while under deep sedation.
General Anesthesia (only available in hospital)
What type of patient is this suited for? For patients with a very high level of anxiety about dental treatment. Often general anesthesia is only recommended for patients with more complicated medical issues.
Description: General anesthesia is a drug-induced loss of consciousness during which the patient is not arousable, even to painful stimuli. General anesthesia is only administered in a hospital and the patient will not remember any of the procedure.
