To remove PLAQUE! Left on your teeth, plaque forms an acid with the food you eat. This acid, if not removed, will eat through the enamel of your teeth. Brushing disrupts and removes plaque from the inner, outer and top surfaces of your teeth, while flossing removes plaque from between your teeth. See us today for information on the importance of removing plaque thoroughly. Are you flossing properly? Some tips: Use approximately 18″ of floss. Wind the ends of the floss around the middle fingers of each hand. Leave approximately 3″ free, grasping it with your thumb and forefingers. Use a very gentle swing motion to insert the floss between your teeth. Curve it into a C shape around each tooth and gently work it up and down several times. You should be able to hear a “squeaky clean” sound. Repeat this on every tooth starting on the upper right and ending on the lower left. You don’t have to floss all of your teeth – only the ones you want to keep! If you have difficulty flossing, we can suggest certain aids to help you. Children will need help with flossing until age 10 or 11. We can also give you useful techniques to floss your children’s teeth. Ask us today for a demonstration.
