Unlike your regular brief examination on your hygiene visit where immediate concerns and decay are addressed a complete oral examination is a procedure which encompasses much more. This examination is 1 hour in length and is performed every 3 to 5 years (upon patient’s need) and includes: A complete oral cancer screening Periodontal Gum assessment Jaw Bone assessment (Cyst, Tumor, Cancer, remnant of roots, impacted tooth, bone fracture, bone density, bone thickness) Jaw Joints (TMJ) assessment which are undetectable with any other x-rays This is a dental procedure that is covered by all insurance plans, which is recommended only if the patient needs it, (it is always the patient’s choice and it is not mandatory) so that we can accurately address your overall oral health. After the complete oral examination a treatment plan is prepared by your treatment coordinator to ensure your dental health for the next 3-5 years.
